Abstract:
H1 NMR spectroscopic study of the chloromethylating system TiCl4/ClCH2OCH3 used in manufacturing of ion exchangers revealed practically important side reaction of disproportionation of chloromethyl methyl ether into di(chloromethyl) and dimethyl ethers and a stable carbenoid intermediate in the chloromethylation reaction. Based on these data, ways to stabilize the quality of ion exchangers were suggested.
