Abstract:
The state of Pd2+ ions in aqueous solutions in the region of their hydrolytic instability in the presence of polyoxo metalates, i.e., W6+, Mo6+, V5+, and Nb5+ polyoxoanions (M ions), is studied. In the presence Of Pd2+, polyoxo metalates retain their structure and do not form the Pd2+-polyoxo metalate bonds as is shown by 17O,31P, and 51V NMR spectroscopies. At pH > 3 in the presence of polyoxo metalates, the Pd2+ ions form colloidal solutions of polymeric hydroxo complexes stable to coagulation, which is shown by spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy. At M = Mo and the molar ratio Pd : M = 2, the size of the colloidal particles is 30-60 Å. The most stable colloids are formed at the M : Pd molar ratio from 1.5 to 2.
