Abstract:
31P NMR spectra were recorded from 0.01 to 0.0003 M solutions of six phosphorus-containing heteropoly acids (HPAs) in water and organic solvents. The HPAs studied are not transformed in the organic solvents examined. In water solutions, H5PW11TiO40 and H6P2Mo18O62 HPAs are also stable in the range of concentrations studied. The other HPAs experience partial or complete destruction depending on dilution. H6P2W18O62 iS degraded by a dissociative mechanism; H3PW12O40, by an alkaline-hydrolysis mechanism; and H3PMo12O40 and H6P2W21O71 degradation follows a combination mechanism.
