Abstract:
Reactions of the Re+ and Re-2(+) ions and the ReOx+ (x = 1-3) oxygen-containing ions with methane, propane, propylene, and cyclopropane were studied by ion cyclotron resonance. The formation of several organometallic ions, Re(C3H6)(+), Re(C3H4)(+), Re-2(C3H6)(+), and Re-2(C3H4)(+), including rhenium metallocarbene ReCH2+ and oxometallocarbanes ReOx-1CH2+ (x = 2,3), was observed. The upper and lower bounds for bond energies in these complexes were determined, namely, 111 > D°(Re+–CH2) > 88.4, D°(Re+–C3H6) > 69, D°( –C3H6) > 69, D°(Re+–C3H4) > 70.5, D°( –C3H4) > 70.5,
D°(ReO+–CH2) > 110, D°( –CH2) > 118 kcal/mol.
