Abstract:
A study has been made of the influence of heat-treating conditions (temperature and gas medium) on the properties of a vanadium-molybdenum oxide catalyst in the oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid. It has been shown that active and selective catalysts are formed by thermal decomposition of the product obtained by drying a solution of ammonium metavanadate and paramolybdate under conditions such that the vanadium ions will be reduced to the tetravalent state, while retaining the plus 6 degree of oxidation of the molybdenum. Heat-treatment of the oxidized catalyst in a reducing medium does not lead to complete regeneration of its properties
