Abstract:
Adsorption of ammonia and nitrogen oxide on V2O5/Al2O3 samples of different degrees of reduction has been studied by IR spectroscopy. On an oxidized surface, ammonia is coordinated by V3+ and V4+ ions to form ammonium ions; NO is not adsorbed. On a reduced surface, the coordination of NO by V3+, V4+, and V5+ ions is observed, which results in the formation of nitrosyl complexes. A strong mutual influence between NO and NH3 occurs during coadsorption or consecutive interaction on a reduced catalyst surface.
