Abstract:
Formic acid is an expensive chemical, its annual production being more than 500 thousand tons. Its major applications include silage and animal feed preservation. It is used in production of textiles, formate salts, pharmaceuticals/food chemicals, rubber chemicals (antiozonants and coagulants), catalysts and plasticizers also. Nowadays formic acid is produced commercially by hydrolysis of methyl formate or formamide [1, 1].
The new method of formic acid production by gas phase heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde with oxygen from air over supported vanadium oxide catalyst was developed in the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS [2, 1].
