Platinum deposited on alumina was used as a catalyst. A heat-resistant aluminum-containing
steel gauze was used as the catalyst support. The alumina layer was obtained using the Bayer
process (precipitation of aluminum hydroxide from sodium aluminate solutions). Platinum
and tungsten were deposited on alumina by incipient wetness impregnation from solutions of
precursors. The efficiency of catalysts were measured for reactors with a length of 45 mm and
a diameter of 14 mm inside of which circle metal gauze patterns of catalyst were packed. A
honeycomb catalyst produced from the heat-resistant steel was tested as reference.
