Abstract:
A complete x-ray structural analysis of crystals of Na5PMo10. V2040. 15H20 (I) has been carried out. The crystals of this salt belong to the triclinic system: a =11.618, b=12.373, c=17.936 A, alfa=82.5, beta =84.5, gamma=65.0 , Z =2, space group P1. The heteropolyanion in compound I has the Keggin structure with symmetry 43m. In contrast to the corresponding acid, the water molecules in compound I do not form an independent framework, but take part in its formation together with Na + and the anion (HFAn); the Na + contact is made chiefly with O(terminal) of the
HPAn. The vibrational spectra (infrared and Raman) of the solutions and crystalline powders have been studied, and spectral indications of two different forms of cation-HPAn interaction have been detected: 1) with O(bridging); in this case the HPAn has a pseudo-Keggin structure; 2) chiefly with O(terminal); in this case the HFAn has the Keggin structure. The most significant criterion of this interaction is the relative intensity (relative to the band at 997 cm -1) of
the band at 112 cm -1, which is interpreted as rotational, interacting with the bending vibrations of the HPAn. It has been shown that the vibrational symmetry of [PMo10V2040] 5- in the crystals and solution is lower than the crystallographic symmetry (Oh, Td). The HPAn preserves the pseudo-Keggin structure in acidic aqueous solutions, but is converted into the Keggin structure under the conditions of crystallization of the Na salts.
