Abstract:
A combinatorial approach is used to investigateseveral alkali metals promoted Cu–Ru binary oxide cata-lysts with improved catalytic performance in the propylenepartial oxidation. 2 %Cu/5 %Ru/c–SiO2catalyst had thebest yield with high propylene conversion and propyleneoxide (PO) selectivity. Among the promoters screening inthe study, NaCl promotion significantly increased the POselectivity accompanied by some attenuation in the totalpropylene conversion. It was proposed that binary oxidecatalysts revealed a greater number of exposed catalyticallyactive adsorption sites as compared to monometallic oxidecounterparts according to XPS and FTIR results. BesidesNaCl addition alters the structure, yielding a significantlyimproved PO selectivity without any change in the particlesize of Cu and Ru oxide according to XRD analysis.
