Abstract:
Reversible chemical reactions can be used for direct and efficient generation of mechanical work in
environmentally clean gas turbines or other heat engines. In contrast to the conventional gas turbine cycle. the
suggested scheme allows a regeneration of the fuel mixture via a reverse endothermic reaction and its reuse in a closed zero emission technological cycle. Despite decreasing the amount of moles in the gaseous fuel mixture in the course of the exothermic reaction, the overall thermodynamic efficiency can exceed 4&50%, thus being of practical interest. Moreover, no heat exchangers, which are usually believed to be inevitable components of thermochemical energy converters, are required, because the working fluid for the turbine is heated by the energy released during the chemical reaction just inside the working fuel mixture. The syn-gas methanation readtion appeared to be the most promising for practical use in the considered scheme
