Abstract:
The β-FeSi2 different doping methods for improvement thermoelectric properties are widely used. The aim of present study was to dissolve neodymium-atoms in β-FeSi2 structure using nonequilibrium methods. The neodymium-doped β-FeSi2 was synthesized from elemental powders by using mechanical alloying technique (MA). MA powders were sintered by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) and conventional sintering. X-ray data showed that during mechanochemical treatment, the β-FeSi2 formation took place. The changes in lattice parameters indicated that the neodymium atoms are dissolved into β-FeSi2 structure. The change lattice volume up to 0.46% was found. Differential Dissolution method (DD method) showed that neodymium atoms are involved in the process of the formation iron disilicide at the stage of solid solution forming. After mechanochemical synthesis and heat-treatment the β-FeSi2 phase contains neodymium atoms. The stoichiometric compound FeSi 2Nd0,037 was calculated by DD method from experimental dates.
