Abstract:
In recent years, great efforts have been invested into the design of bioinspired manganese complexes, capable of conducting chemo- and stereoselective oxidations of complex organic molecules,1 such as asymmetric epoxidations, stereoselective and stereospecific C-H oxidations, oxidative desymmetrization of cyclic substrates, kinetic resolution of secondary alcohols, etc.2 In this contribution, we present an overview of the versatile catalytic reactivity of chiral bisamine-bis-pyridine manganese complexes, developed in our group and eslewhere, in a variety of asymmetric oxygenations with the environmentally benign oxidant hydrogen peroxide. Current understanding of the nature of the catalytically active, presumably high-valent manganese-oxo species, is presented.
