The process includes simultaneously pouring into water a HCl soln. contg. TiCl4 and soln. contg. pptg. agent under mixing and at const. pH and temp., pptg., washing, drying and thermally treating the resulting ppt. Bimodal porous structure with high pore vol. is obtained when alkali metal hydroxides are used as the pptg. agent and the pptn. is performed at pH 2.0-4.5 and 50-85°, or at pH 3.0-4.5 and 20-85°.
