Реферат:
The chapter discusses conditions of diamond phase transformation through graphitization that has important theoretical and practical implications. Traditionally non-catalytic graphitisation of diamond has been considered mainly at “high” temperature above 2000 K. In this chapter, a graphitisation kinetic model and mechanism of diamond graphitization at the “low” temperature region of 1400-1900 K is discussed. Diamond graphitization is considered as a multistep process consisting of a decomposition of surface groups stabilizing diamond structure, reconstruction of bare diamond surface, formation of primary graphitic species, and their further transformation into carbon nanostructures. Variation of annealing parameters allows the production of sp2/sp3 nanocomposites, onion-like carbon, and polyhedral closed nanographitic particles. Current and potential applications of nanostructures produced via diamond annealing are reviewed.
