Novel CaO/Y2O3 carbon dioxide sorbent with enhanced stability for sorption-enhanced reforming applications

High temperature CO2 sorbents are successfully used for sorption enhanced hydrocarbons reforming. CaO is often used in SERP as a high temperature CO2, however, at high steam and CO2 pressures CaO based sorbent undergoes accelerated sintering. A novel CaO/Y2O3 sorbent was synthesized and its sorption properties were studied. XRD results showed that CaO does not interact with the yttria matrix, however, the addition of CaO considerably changed the morphology of primary yttria particles. The CO2 absorption uptake in recarbonation-decomposition cycles increased with Increasing CaO content. CaO/Y2O3 sorbent resisted moisture and retained its strength during storage in the air. This novel material can be considered as a promising for CO2 fixed bed sorption enhanced hydrocarbons reforming.
