This chapter covers the area of catalytic asymmetric oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and dioxygen, focusing mainly on synthetic aspects of the problem. In particular, asymmetric epoxidations, sulfoxidations, Baeyer–Villiger oxidations, non-osmium-catalyzed cis-dihydroxylations, kinetic resolution of alcohols, and desymmetrization of meso-diols reported to date are considered. Some examples of practical applications of sustainable catalytic asymmetric oxidations are reported. A rapidly emerging area of sustainable organocatalytic asymmetric oxidation is overviewed briefly for comparison.
