Abstract:
Polynomial basis function tails are proposed for band structure calculations. The tails provide only the nearest- and the next-nearest neighbour interactions. The efficiency of the new tails is tested on the models with known exact solutions: the Krönig-Penny potential and 3D empty crystal. The results obtained with the new and exponential tails are compared.
