The catalytic and structural properties of the ultradispersed powder (UDP) of silver and a number of Ag-containing catalysts prepared by conventional techniques were studied. The extremely high selectivity to ethylene oxide observed in the transformation of ethylene over the UDP of silver and Ag/C is probably related to the formation of specific oxide-like structures that serve as a source of electrophilic oxygen needed for the reaction.
