Monodisperse polystyrene particles larger than 1 mum in size with a complicated structure of the surface layer that contains both a stabilizer, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and carboxyl functional groups of an initiator, 4,4'-azo-bis(4-cyanoisovaleric acid), were prepared by the dispersion polymerization of styrene in an alcohol medium. The specific features of polymerization, the dispersity of the resulting particles, and the structure of their surface layer and their electrosurface properties were studied. The methods and range of controlling these characteristics were determined.
