Abstract:
Methyl phenyl sulfide is quantitatively oxidized to the corresponding sulfoxide and sulfone by dioxygen in the presence of isobutyraldehyde and transition metal substituted heteropolytungstates, PW11MO39n- (M=CoII, and TiIV). The reaction proceeds via a radical chain mechanism.
