Abstract: A study is made of the physicochemical principles of genesis and regulation of properties of silica gels formed by the coagel procedure in the presence of salt coagulators. Specific features of the texture of such silicas are elucidated, and a mechanism of formation of the silicas, which takes account of the peculiar features of mass transfer of low-molecular-weight forms of silicic acid under simultaneous proceeding of the key stages of the SiO2 synthesis, is proposed.
