Abstract:
Reactions of the unsaturated heteropoly anions (HPAs) [AsW9O33](9-) (AsW9), [As2W19O67(H2O)](14-) (As2W19), and [As2W20O68(H2O)](10-) (As2W20) With the Fe3+ and Co2+ ions are examined. The lacunar As(III)-HPAs are shown to stabilize the superstoichiometric (per one HPA) number of Fe3+ ions in solutions at pH greater than or equal to 6. As2W19 (PH 6) attaches up to 12 Fe3+ ions, whereas the number of attached Co2+ ions corresponds, under the same conditions, only to the number of "vacancies" in As2W19 and As2W20 lattices, i.e., to 2 and 1, respectively. AsW9 (pH 7.5) forms an M-containing As2W18M3 complex and, thus, additionally stabilizes similar to 3 Fe3+ or Co2+ ions. The complexes of lacunar HPAs with Fe3+ and Co2+ ions were isolated from solutions as solid salts containing Cs+ cations. All cesium salts relate to the common structural type, As2W21 HPA. The conclusion is drawn that superstoichiometric Fe3+ ions are present in Fe(III)-containing As2W18Fe3 and As2W19Fe2 HPAs in the form of oligomeric hydroxide species grafted into HPA.
