Abstract:
Low-temperature CO adsorption on a Cu2+/TiO2 catalyst prepared by ion exchange is studied by IR spectroscopy. It is established that adsorption of CO at 77 K results in formation of Cu2+-CO carbonyls differing in the localization of the Cu2+ ions on the anatase faces. The increase of temperature in a CO atmosphere causes reduction of Cu2+, only Cu+-CO being observed at room temperature. CO adsorption at 293 K is accompanied by rapid reduction of copper(II) ions. A strong effect of anatase on the adsorbed copper ions, resulting in stabilization of their divalent state at 77 K, is established.
