Abstract:
Ative photocatalysts for decomposing water-soluted hydrogen sulfide into hydrogen and sulfur are prepared via supporting cadmium sulfide on a cation-exchange polymer. Finely dispersed VIII-group metals coprecipitated with cadmium sulfide on the polymer considerably enhance the reaction rate, the activity of the photocatalysts being correlated with the overpotential for electrochemical hydrogen evolution of these metals. A special treatment of cadmium sulfide with copper or silver is found to result in a sufficient expanding the spectral range of the uhotocatalvst as well as in a substantial rise of its activity. A possible mechanism of the catalytic action of the-metal promoted photocatalysts is discussed.
