Abstract:
Samples of alumina, modified with MgO (4 - 9 wt %) were investigated using die method of thermal analysis. The observed decrease of the exothermic effect of the γ-Al2O3 to α--Al2O3 transformation turned out to be independent of the method of introduction of magnesium compounds, indicating that solid solutions were formed at lower temperatures (500 - 900°C). Weight losses within this temperature interval varied with the method of modification, revealing the differences in the structure of solid solutions.
