Abstract:
The stationary state of the active phase of the title catalyst is CuO1-δ with a high concentration of point defects. Interaction with the reaction medium results in rapid changes in oxidtion state in surface and near-surface layers and in slower processes resulting in formation or destruction of extensive defects. Defects form by phase transition in the surface layer. Destruction of these defects lowers catalytic activity by 1-2 orders.
