Abstract:
The crystal parameters of a KFeO2-SiO2 system in the Fe2O3-K2CO3-K2SiO3 catalyst was directly proportional to the content of SiO2 ≤20%, suggesting the formation of solid solutions in this catalyst during dehydrogenation of C4H8 to butadiene in the presence of water vapor. An addition of K2SiO3 to the Fe2O3-K2CO3 catalyst resulted in the formation of the above solid solutions, which inhibited the reduction of KFeO2 and, consequently, preserved the phase structure of the catalyst during the reaction at H2O-C4H8 mole ratio (r) >10. The reduction of KFeO2 and the changes in the phase structure of the catalyst occurred at r ≤10 and increased with decreasing I. At r = 10, the real r inside the catalyst granules was >10, due to the faster diffusion of H2O than C4H8, and led to the reduction of KFeO2 exclusively on the surface of the granules. The unreduced KFeO2 was an active ingredient in the Fe2O3-K2CO3 catalyst and its reduction with decreasing r from 19.9 to 10 lowered the conversion of C4H8 from 30.4 to 19.3%.
