Abstract:
Physicochemical and catalytic properties of MgO-Li compounds and Mg-Al compositions were studied in oxidative dimerization of CH4. Depending on catalyst composition, formation of C2 hydrocarbons and CO2 proceeded either via sequential-parallel or via sequential chain reactions. The formation of CO occurred either due to the reaction of CH4 with H2O or due to the decomposition of surface MeO groups. The activity of the catalysts correlated with the concentration of defects in MgO structure, which were stabilized by the Fe3+ contaminant ions. Increased crystallinity of the catalysts and related decrease in the content of Fe3+, having disordered surroundings, led to a decreased activity in the extensive oxidation of CH4.
