Abstract:
The rate of oxidative dehydrogenation of 1-butene in the presence of V/MgO increased with the pressure of 1-butene and decreased with increasing degree of catalyst reduction (θ), with Ea linearly proportional to θ; a similar dependence was observed for oxidation of the reaction product, 1,3-butadiene. Ea For the reoxidation of the catalyst with O2 was also linearly dependent on θ, and more strongly dependent than either of the reductive stages. These interrelationships of the 3 reacting components with the catalyst permit determination of θ, reaction rate, and selectivity for 1,3-butadiene at any desired time for a given set of experimental parameters by numerical solution of a kinetic equation.
