Abstract:
The interaction of CO or CO + O2 mixtures with CuO was studied over a wide range of temperature. The CuO was pre-treated in various manners (oxidation, different degrees of reduction). Under steady-state reaction conditions, a Cu+-CO complex and some carbonate species are formed. The conversion of carbonyls to carbonates by reaction with CuO or O in the gas phase was studied. The carbonates can act as intermediates during CO oxidation on Cu oxides.
