Abstract:
Oxidation and decomposition of HCOOH and CH3COOH on Pt have been studied by the gradientless method. On the basis of thermodynamic calculations, the comparison of HCOOH oxidation and decomposition rates, data for the oxidation of formic acid in the presence of acetic acid and IR spectroscopic data, the oxidation of these two acids has been calculated to involve no intermediate carboxylate formation.
