Abstract:
The behavior of oxygen adsorbed on epitaxial silver films has been studied by electron spectroscopy in the temperature range of 110–610 K. A method is proposed for determining whether desorption or dissolution in the bulk of silver is responsible for the observed decrease of the surface adsorbate concentration. As found, at T=300 K adsorbed oxygen may readily diffuse into the bulk of silver.
