Solid solutions of copper cations in oxides of other metals are components of important catalysts. Nevertheless, despite the long history of studying such systems by various physicochemical methods, many features of their structure are not known. The investigation of the characteristics of their diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectra presented in this paper shows a significant difference between the optical properties of the reduced forms of real Cu–Zn catalysts and those expected for the composition of copper metal nanoparticles and zinc oxide if there were no interaction between them.
