Abstract:
The electronic state of Pt in NH4TsVM Pentasil-type catalysts (SiO2/Al2O3 ratio 28) containing 0.53-1.74 wt.% Pt was studied by XPS. The Pt dispersity was established by electron microscopy and CO chemisorption. The initial Pt is localized as Pt(NH3)42+ before calcination. During calcination, the Pt(NH3)42+ complexes decomposition, the Pt2+ ions migrate into the depths of the Pentasil pores, and partial reduction (∼35%) to Pt occurs. At higher Pt content, metallic Pt migrates to the surface and Pt dispersion decreases. The rate of C2H6 hydrogenolysis per g of Pt decreases as Pt content increases and also on going from an air-H2 amt. to pure H2 atm.
