Abstract:
The residual thermally induced structural changes in calcium-rich clinoptilolite, which might sustain its structure, were studied using the x-ray fluorescent method. A Ca-rich clinoptilolite from basalt was used. The sample was subjected to five cycles of heating to 450° and cooling. After thermal treatment the sample of Ca-rich clinoptilolite from basalt suffered some structural changes, enhancing its thermal persistence. They were manifested in lowering of structural symmetry caused by distortion of the framework with retained positions of cations and H2O mols. within the cavities, along with the bridging OH groups formation. OH groups in different positions exerted different impact on the thermal persistence of the sample, and their evolution during the cycles led to the increase of the stability.
