Abstract:
Experimental data are presented for the following catalytic reactions - homomolecular exchange of oxygen, oxidation of hydrogen, conversion of CO, and oxidative dehydrogenation of butylene. At relatively high temperatures, these reactions proceed preferentially via a regenerative mechanism in which oxygen of the catalyst surface is involved. The specific catalytic activities of catalysts of identical composition are nearly equal and determined by the energy with which oxygen is bound to the catalyst's surface. A treatment in vacuo at high temperatures may produce chemicalnonequilibrium changes in the surface of many oxide catalysts; on the surface thus modified, several oxidation- reduction reactions may proceed at a high rate at low temperatures via an associative mechanism.
