Abstract:
The resonant core level excitation under the tuneable synchrotron irradiation results in specific responses forming the
grounds of advanced EXAFS, XAS and XES methods. The report highlights similar effects provided by handy routine
techniques of elastic electron scattering and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. An integrated electronic structure of
chemically bound atoms at surface, including adsorbed species or in the bulk originally holds a set of cells for the resonant energy absorption such as intra- and interband electron transitions, plasmon oscillations, ionization of valent states, etc. The model experiments have shown that both inelastic electron scatterings, at surface and in the bulk follow similar rules. Furthermore, it is a common occurrence that the core level excitation is accompanied by using above cells to form an additional multichannel route for the nonradiative energy dissipation. An event comes true on condition that both, the core and coupled electrons belong to the same configuration.
