Abstract:
A sharp increase in the catalytic activity of silica gel-supported TiCl3 in the polymerisation of ethylene was due to the formation of a dispersed and defective TiCl3 crystal phase on the support surface. Kinetics of the C2H4 polymerisation were examined in the presence of silica gel-supported Ti catalyst of various compositions, at 30-95 oC and
3-18 atms., in C6H6. Experimental data were obtained for the dependence of polymerisation rate on reaction time, concentrations of catalysts and monomer, polymerisation temp., and the type of aluminum alkyl catalyst and Al-Ti molar ratios. A high activity was observed per wt. unit of Ti with supported Al-Ti catalyst than with regular Al-Ti catalyst systems, whereas the basic kinetic property of the 2 systems were similar.
