Structured glass-fiber catalysts (GFC) can be used to condition flue gases of coal-fired power plants with
sulfur trioxide in order to improve the capture of fly ash by electrostatic precipitators. Sulfur trioxide can be obtained by oxidizing sulfur dioxide, which is contained directly in the flue gas stream. The article is dedicated to the study of the kinetics of the oxidation of sulfur dioxide on Pt-based glass fiber catalysts. The paper discusses the effect of the concentration of sulfur dioxide and oxygen on the kinetics of the reaction.
