Abstract:
The adsorption of phenol by carbon sorbents obtained by the carbonization (800°C, 1 h) of coals of different ranks in the presence of potassium hydroxide, which was introduced by mechanochemical treatment at a KOH/coal weight ratio of 1.0 g/g, was studied. The specific surface areas and micropore volumes of the obtained samples varied within the limits of 900–1400 m2 and 0.26–0.47 cm3/g, respectively. The kinetics of phenol adsorption from solutions with an initial phenol concentration of 0.1–3.0 mg/mL at 20°C was studied. The effectiveness of the adsorption of phenol, the order of reaction, and the rate-limiting stage were determined.
