Possible methods of synthesizing cis-methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (cis-MTHPA), an epoxy hardener, including catalytic ones, are analyzed. cis-MTHPA synthesis from isoprene and maleic anhydride via the Diels-Alder reaction is demonstrated to be a promising industrial way of obtaining the product. For the commercial production of cis-MTHPA in Russia, it is necessary to organize the domestic production of maleic anhydride.
