Abstract:
Dimethyl disulfide reacts with benzene at 250–350°C over a period of 1–20 s in the presence of catalysts containing strong Brønsted and Lewis acid centers to give a mixture of methylbenzenes, viz. toluene, isomeric xylenes, mesitylene, and durene.
