Abstract:
In this work, a possible cause of the high efficiency of distillation to form aerosols is considered. The consideration is based on the sequential application of a recently proposed method for semiempirically constructing nucleation rate surfaces [1]. Sections of these surfaces at constant nucleation rates illustrate the transformation of the initial phase equilibrium diagram with an increase in the metastability (supersaturation) of the vapor being condensed and show that the phase equilibria described by the diagram are dynamic. Importantly, the distributions of the components in the condensed phase (aerosols) and the vapor phase remaining after the condensation as shown by the dynamic phase diagrams differ from those following from the phase equilibrium diagrams. This can be used to purposefully increase the efficiency of separation of components by distillation to form aerosols.
