Abstract:
The initial rate of photoreduction (photoadsorption carbon monoxide) is equal to the rate of the photocatalytic carbon monoxide oxidation. At experimental studies on the photocatalytic carbon monoxide oxidation are observed first order on carbon monoxide and zero order on oxygen. The activation energy of the photocatalytic oxidation is equal 7 kcal/mole. As since the amount of surface lattice oxygen is approximately a monolayer of surface, the mobile holes formed in the semiconductor oxide can effectively discharge surface lattice oxygen, which converts in such case into the highly reactive form of oxygen. When the CO molecule to be oxidizing meets the above surface oxygen form, an interaction of carbon monoxide with the activated lattice oxygen can occur. In other words, the chemical interaction happens at the contact of the oxidized molecule CO with the surface lattice oxygen discharging by mobile hole (Figure).
