The reactivity of the Tc+ and binuclear cluster Tc-2(+) ions toward alkanes, cycloalkanes, and alkenes was studied by ion cyclotron resonance. Unlike its lighter unreactive analogue Mn+, the Tc+ ion can activate hydrocarbon C-H bonds and form pi complexes with olefins. The cluster Tc-2(+); ion does not react with alkanes but has a higher reactivity toward alkenes compared with the Tc+ ion. Similar and different features of the mechanisms of C-H bond activation by Tc+ and Tc-2(+) are discussed. The upper [D° (Tc+-CH2) < 111 and D° (Tc-2(+) -CH2) < 111 kcal/mol] and lower [(D° (Tc+-C2H4) > 32.7, D° (Tc+-C2H2) > 76.4, D° (Te+-C3H6) < 70.5; D° (Tc+C3H4) < 69.2, D° (Tc+-C4H6) > 58.5. D°(Tc+-C5H6) > 67, D° (Tc+-C6H6) > 59.7, D° (Tc+ -C3H4) > 32.7, D° (Tc+-C2H4) > 67, and D° (Tc-2(+)-C6H6) > 59.7 kcal/mol] bond energy limits were estimated. The interaction of Tc+ and Tc-2(+) with N2O and O-2 was studied and the lower bond energy limits in oxide cations were determined [D° (Tc+-O) > 40,D° (Tc-2(+) -O) > 118, and 40 < D°(Tc2On+ -O) < 118 kcal/mol, n = 1-5].
