The products from the interaction of organometallie zirconium compounds with oxide supports are highly active catalysts for the polymerization of ethylene [1,2]. It has been established in [1, 3] than when ZrR 4 compounds interact with the hydroxyl groups of the support, protolysis takes place, forming tetravalent zirconium surface compounds (-O-)xZrRy (O is oxygen from the support, R is the organic ligand). Moreover, it has been shown in a number of papers [3-5] that growth centers in these catalysts can also develop as a result of the decomposition of the original organometallic surface compounds. At this time the formation of Zr 3+ compounds is possible.
The state of the Zr 3+ ions in an applied organozirconium catalyst was investigated in this paper by ESR, and their interaction with ethylene was studied to clarify the role of the Zr 3+ compounds during polymerization
