Structural and thermal transformations in (1 - x)CsHSO4/xSiO(2) (x = 0-0.8) composite protonic electrolytes containing fine-particle silicas with various pore structures (R-pore = 14-170 Angstrom) were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and x-ray diffraction. The properties of the composites were found to depend on the pore size of silica. At
R-pore = 35-70 A, the enthalpies of the phase transition and melting of CsHSO4 decrease and partial or total amorphization of CsHSO4 occurs, depending on composition. At R-pore = 170 Angstrom, a decrease in the particle size of CsHSO4 is likely to occur. The observed changes in the thermodynamic and structural properties of CsHSO4 correlate with the electrical conductivity of the composites.
