Abstract:
Workshop proceedings. The title electrodes for methane oxidation were investigated in 3 catalytic modes: (i) as traditional oxidation catalysts, with an O2 and CH4 mixture fed to the electrode; (ii) as electrocatalysts, with only methane fed, with O2 supplied to the reaction zone through the electrolyte by passage of current; (iii) mixed mode, with O2 supplied in the feed, and pumped electrochem. to or from the electrode. The most significant enhancement of oxidation rate is in mixed mode with cathodic polarization of Ag and Au, i.e., with O2 pumping from the reaction zone through the electrolyte.
