Abstract:
Tungstovanadophosphoric heteropolycomplexes NaxH3+n−xPW12−nVnO40 can be used as reversible oxidants in homogeneous oxidation of organic compounds. In this work the dependence of their redoxproperties on the vanadium content has been studied. Reduced forms of heteropolycomplexes with n=1 and 2 were found to be not themselves reoxidized by dioxygen, while that with n=4 was rapidly and completely oxidized even at 0 °C. The oxidation of the reduced heteropolycomplex with n=3 also occurred but much more slowly. Evidence that four- electron reduction of dioxygen occurs in solutions of reduced heteropolycomplexes is presented.
All stages of the work were carried out using 31P and 51V NMR control.
